WHERE TO MEET, LODGING:
UPDATECamping location: Little Pine State Park, 4205 Little Pine Creek Rd, Waterville, PA 17776 (41.35351, -77.35185), Lycoming County. About 7 minutes north of Waterville. The campground entrance is JUST past Happy Acres Restaurant. Take a left after going over the grate bridge in the campground to get to the group tent sites near the end of the campground.
Morning meeting location/time: same as above- Organized Group Tenting Area encircled in red on map below, 7:30 AM.
Map/directions to campsites: goo.gl/maps/eoAvztfZFe2PRYWm8
Lodging/Camping amenities: KTA has arranged for free camping for volunteers at Organized Group Tenting sites 1 & 2 at Little Pine State Park. Site 1 is the closest to the group tenting area parking lot (encircled in purple on map above), while site 2 is farther back and more secluded. There are flush toilets and showers at the group site, and an outdoor water spigot for potable water. There are numerous picnic tables and a fire ring for our use. If the forecast is foreboding, we will bring EZ Ups/canopies for the group to use over picnic tables. There are electrical outlets in the bathrooms, but other campers also use these facilities. There is lots of room to pitch tents or car camp, and many trees for hammocks. You are welcome to reserve a campground site at the prevailing rates for your own camper, and they also have yurts and cottages.
Cell phone coverage: There is NO COVERAGE at Little Pine campground. Driving or walking up Limbaugh Road usually yields a signal. Coverage on the trail and roads getting there can be VERY spotty.
Food/Drink: Generally, bring your own food and cooking supplies. See FAQ (link) for recommendations. UPDATE: For this event, Tony will be preparing at least Friday night supper for the group. Stay tuned. Please list any allergies or dietary restrictions on sign-up. We will likely head to Happy Acres Restaurant for a meal Saturday night, Dutch treat.

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Work days: Friday and Saturday approximately 8-4, Sunday 8-noon. Camping available starting Thursday.
Description of work: ***Update from Tiadaghton Forester Ben Sands: "The work plan will include chainsaw work, brush cutting, mowing, putting in new signs and some digging." We will be concentrating on rebenching and/or relocating sections of the GET that are being eroded by Bonnell and Wolf Run. There may be some lighter-duty tasks, but prepare for hard work surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain streams in Pennsylvania. We take lots of breaks, by the way. And Happy Acres Restaurant has ice cream. Work sites may involve a couple mile walk in from the access area. We carpool to trail locations; please let me know if you are not comfortable riding with others or driving on gravel forestry roads. From the campground, drive times should be in the xxx-xxx minute range.
Golden Eagle Trail: Located in the PA Wilds region, the Golden Eagle Trail (PDF map) starts in the east side of Pine Creek Gorge and features a strenuous climb to pristine mountaintop streams and several outstanding vistas. Because of heavy usage by hikers and the area’s fragile ecosystem, overnight camping is prohibited along this trail. The Golden Eagle Trail is featured in 50 Hikes in Central Pennsylvania (2001), by Tom Thwaites, and this accomplished hiking authority states that it “may be the best day hike in Penn’s Woods.” Though only 9.2-miles-long, it is one of the 18 state forest designated hiking trails and is blazed orange. We will have paper maps for participants.
Notes: Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Jenn Ulmer, KTA Manager of Trail Maintenance and Training, at [email protected] or 570-854-8316 with any questions.
**This event is also part of the PA Wilds Trail Care Challenge!**
