Map/directions to park: https://goo.gl/maps/5vcQNGz7KvoRZc3s7
Lodging/Camping amenities: We have arranged for free camping for volunteers at Tenley Park, a 77-acre community park in the Trail Town of Everett, PA. The park is open to the public, and community members may also be enjoying the park while we’re there. Dispersed camping for tents is available in grassy areas in the park (encircled in red on the map above) hammocks can be hung in the woods or pavilion, and car camping is perfectly fine. Campers (no hookups) are welcome in the parking lot (please park along the edges to allow for traffic flow and parking). Near the pavilion are vault toilets. Potable water is NOT available at the park. Please plan to bring enough for at least one day, and containers that are easily fillable from a standard sink. Water and food can also be purchased in Everett. We have arranged for the use of a nearby church for showers in the evenings. The Trail Care Event Leader will have a key to enter the church. We either all go at the same time or borrow the key. Water containers can be filled at the church in their kitchen sink.
Cell phone coverage: Coverage at the park is good. Coverage on the trail and roads getting there can be VERY spotty.
Food/Drink: Generally, bring your own food, drink, and cooking supplies. See FAQ (link) for recommendations. Please list any allergies or dietary restrictions on sign-up. If you’d like, you can join us for dinner out, Dutch treat, at a local establishment on Saturday evening. ***NEW: Tony, camp cook extraordinaire, will be providing a dish Friday night. Please feel free to bring sides/snacks.

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Work days: Friday and Saturday approximately 8-4, Sunday 8-noon. Camping available starting Thursday.
Description of work: MST Everett Region Manager Chad North and local trail maintainers will be scouting the trail. Work areas will focus on MST Sections TBD. There may be sections that need DR mowing, likely lots of brushcutting, freshening of painted blazes, as well as chainsaw removal of blowdowns. We carpool to trail locations; please let me know if you are not comfortable riding with others or driving on gravel forestry roads. From the park, drive times should be in the 0-45-minute range.
Mid State Trail: The Mid State Trail is a ~527 km / 320-mile hiking trail. It is the longest and wildest footpath in PA. In some places, the trail can be a VERY challenging knife-edge, rocky, briar-filled conundrum. Access is limited and work areas often involve a lengthy hike in, or a drive on iffy forestry/game lands/private roads. There should also be more moderate sections in which to work. Paper maps/guide are available for purchase from the MSTA website, and the trail’s most updated information is available digitally through the FarOut app. It is one of the 18 state forest designated hiking trails and is blazed orange.
Notes: Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Jenn Ulmer, KTA Manager of Trail Maintenance and Training, at ulmer@kta-hike.org or 570-854-8316 with any questions, or Volunteer Leader Chad North @ chadnorth@gmail.com / 570-238-3591.
****You’ll want to complete the trifecta and join us working on the Mid State in the State College Region May 4-7 and Tioga Region June 8-11!***
