WHERE TO MEET, LODGING:

Camping location: Tracy Ridge Campground (Allegheny National Forest), Bradford PA 16701, Corydon Township (41.94428, -78.87509) McKean County, just minutes south of the PA/NY border. The campground is about 15 miles west of Bradford, just off PA-321. ANF has arranged for us to camp for free in sites 27, 31, and 34. These sites are in the first loop
Morning meeting location/time: Meet at the Tracy Ridge Trailhead just before the campground, 7:45 AM. Parking is available at the coordinates 41.9448, -78.8756.
Map/directions to campsites: https://goo.gl/maps/5vcQNGz7KvoRZc3s7
Lodging/Camping amenities: We have arranged for free camping for volunteers at the Tracy Ridge Campground, located at 2245’ on the flat-top ridge in the federal recreation area. Someone will be at the campground by ~4:00 pm to assist you upon arrival Thursday night if needed. Tracy Ridge is a primitive/rustic US Forest Service Campground. Sites are generally well-shaded. Tent, small RV, car, and hammock camping welcome in sites 27, 31, and 34 in B loop – first left off the campground road (you may have to share a site with fellow KTA trail workers). There are additional sites for RVs. If you would like to bring yours, please let us know ASAP, and we will attempt to reserve another RV site.
***Potable/running water, IS available at Tracy Ridge. However, there is reportedly high iron content. If desired, bring a couple gallons of water for your own drinking purposes.
***Electricity is not available at the campsites. Plan to charge any devices with your vehicle.
***Showers are not available at Tracy Ridge. For this weekend, fees have been waived and volunteers are welcome to shower at nearby Willow Bay Campground (a 10-minute drive north).
Cell phone coverage: There is sketchy cell service at Tracy Ridge Campground (we’re looking into closest reliable access).
Food/Drink: Generally, bring your own food, drink, and cooking supplies. See FAQ (link) for recommendations. You are welcome to join us as we probably head to a local brewpub in Bradford for Saturday supper (Dutch treat). Please list any allergies or dietary restrictions on sign-up.

ABOUT THE EVENT:
Work days: Friday and Saturday approximately 8-4, Sunday 8-noon. Camping available starting Thursday.
Description of work: In cooperation with the Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail Association, and USFS Allegheny National Forest, we plan to work on the connecting trails to the Tracy Ridge Trail System: Johnnycake and Nelse Ridge Trails. Work will involve cutting downed trees (limited to USFS-certified sawyers), and lopping and brushing encroaching vegetation. We carpool to trail locations; please let me know if you are not comfortable riding with others or driving on gravel forestry roads. From the campground, drive times should be in the 10-15 minute range, although some of the closer work can be reached on foot from the campground.
Tracy Ridge Trail System: Wander beneath the oak trees on the Tracy Ridge Hiking Trail System. Explore small groves of hemlock along the streams. Slopes along the reservoir and the eight small streams in the area are steep. Rock ledges and large boulders can be found on the steeper hillsides. This hiking trail system was spared from possible bike use in part due to KTA’s Trail Care weekend in 2018 in cooperation with the Allegheny National Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail Association.
Notes: Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Jenn Ulmer, KTA Manager of Trail Maintenance and Training, at ulmer@kta-hike.org or 570-854-8316 with any questions, or Volunteer Leader Joe Hardisky @ hardis123@msn.com / 724-510-4298.
