Allegheny National Forest

August 16-18, 2024
Ludlow, PA

It’s time to get back to nature.

This part of Pennsylvania is trail central, and the trails take you to gorgeous vistas, rock outcroppings, open hardwoods, old growth forests, and stands of hemlock.  Hikes with waterfalls, cascades, and abundant wildlife are everywhere.

Each day, choose from a selection of hikes and excursions led by knowledgeable and experienced hike leaders. Friday hikes depart at 1, 2, and 3pm, with Saturday and Sunday hikes departing at 9am.  Hikes vary in lengths, from shorter to ten miles.  Explore the Allegheny National Forest in the vicinity of Minister Creek Trail System, Tracy Ridge Trail System, Beaver Meadows, Mill Creek, and the National Scenic North Country Trail.  Hikes are easy to moderate.  Perhaps you'll even spot the Allegheny National Forest's fabled "Bigfoot."  On Saturday and Sunday bagged lunches are provided to take on the trail.

After Friday and Saturday hikes conclude, retire to Olmstead Manor to enjoy dinner and camaraderie in the dining room with your fellow hikers.  Post-dinner, listen to speakers and enjoy an optional campfire.  This year's presenters include: Cody Magill, longtime hiker and photographer of scenic areas throughout the United States and Kirk Johnson, President of Friends of the Allegheny Wilderness.

During our weekend hiking adventure we’ll stay at Olmstead Manor and Groves Lodge in the heart of Allegheny National Forest.

Groves Lodge is a modern, fully accessible facility with overnight and central dining accommodations. The Lodge was built on the slope of Olmsted's spring-lined hill in 1976, with the forest as a backdrop and a view over the valley.

Hotel-style bedrooms and bathrooms are designed for the modern comfort and convenience of guests, while the family-style dining area encourages fellowship and conversation. The cut stone construction of the building, and its informal lounge with an inviting fireplace, gives the Lodge an atmosphere of comfortable, rustic charm.

The recently constructed annex portion of the lodge is designed for accessibility and convenience with six bedrooms and fully accessible bathrooms, including a wheelchair friendly shower.
In addition, the annex boasts two spacious meeting areas for guest use.

The Manor offers unique rooms with rich history. The Manor House is the original home of the George and Iva Olmsted family. The construction of the manor was completed in 1917. The Tudor-style mansion retains the original architectural details, the unique charm of the individual bedrooms, and an air of faded elegance throughout.

A spacious living room with a fireplace and grand piano is the perfect place for friends to join together in laughter and fellowship. The Manor also boasts an elegant dining room and a kitchen for guests who prefer to prepare and serve their own food.  The kitchen is furnished with a full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee maker.  The house also contains an original two-lane bowling alley on the attic level.

Pricing includes 2 nights stay and 6 meals (Friday dinner through Sunday lunch), along with your hikes/activities. Rates are per person.  Registration is full; if trying to register, you will be put on a waitlist in the event someone else cancels their spot.
