Elk Trail
The Elk Trail is a 15.6-mile trail in Elk County, which was routed to increase the hiker’s likelihood of seeing the area’s resident elk population. It mostly follows old forestry roads and passes through several former strip mines and other rehabilitated areas that are now being managed as elk habitat. The trail begins near the town of Benezette, climbs to the top of the Allegheny Plateau, and remains on mostly high ground until descending near its eastern end. The trail ends near the village of Dents Run.
