Bird Migration Hike with Pennsylvania Game Commission February 21, 2026 - 2:30 pm | Stevens, PA Middle Creek is a Globally Important Bird Area managed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. It provides an annual winter resting spot for migrating tundra swans and snow geese. During this time, bird counts can reach over 100,000. Join KTA and the Pennsylvania Game Commission for a short, guided hike to discuss Middle Creek's history, snow goose migration, and other natural wonders. Register here! Maple Sugaring Demonstration & Winter Tree Identification Hike March 1, 2026 - 11:30 am | Lancaster County Central Park, Lancaster, PA PA Master Naturalists will lead this 2.5-mile hike, sharing tips on how to use bark and buds for winter tree identification. We'll finish the hike with a stop at a maple sugaring demonstration site, where we'll get to sample maple sugar candy and learn how tree sap becomes maple syrup from County Park Naturalists. International Women's Day Hike March 8, 2026 - 10:00 am | McConnells Mill State Park, PA Celebrate International Women’s Day on the trail with a moderate four-mile guided hike led by Tory (@torytalkstrails) and Hannah (@hikesandhopsblog), plus a Forest Therapy experience led by Lauren Kennedy-Little. The route follows Alpha Pass, Kildoo, and the North Country Trail and concludes around 1:30 pm. An optional post-hike gathering at Shubrew and a book signing for Beer Hiking Pennsylvania and New Jersey are also available. Register here! KTA Webinar: Vernal Pools April 7, 2026 - 6:00 pm | Virtual What's so Cool About a Vernal Pool? Vernal pools are isolated, small wetlands that only contain water for part of the year. They are often found in the forest and are easy to overlook while hiking, yet they are vitally important to the survival of several wildlife species. Join Miranda Smith, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Southwest Region Education Specialist, to learn about vernal pools and how they serve as a vital habitat. Registration is free, but required. Spring Hiking Weekend 2026 May 1-3, 2026 | Laurel Highlands Join KTA in the Laurel Highlands Conservation Landscape for a weekend of guided hikes, rafting, tours of battlefields & Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, workshops, book discussions, birding, biking, and even an overnight backpack. It's a celebration of trails and how landscapes connect us to one another and to place. Lodging is at the historic Summit Inn. Come for one day or the whole weekend. Register here! North Country Trail Slackpack - Clarion June 10-12, 2026 | Clarion County Join KTA and the Clarion Chapter of the North Country Trail for three days of hiking and a half day of kayaking the Clarion River. Keystone Trails Association International Hiking Trip Fundraiser: Trekking on the International Appalachian Trail Ulster-Ireland August 9-20, 2026 | International Appalachian Trail Explore the northern reaches of the Republic of Ireland as well as the Causeway Coast section of Northern Ireland on this KTA international hiking trip fundraiser. The International Appalachian Trail Ulster-Ireland begins in the west in West Donegal in the Republic of Ireland and stretches for 279 miles into Northern Ireland, finishing in Larne in County Antrim. We will explore several sections of trail in the Republic of Ireland near Donegal before transitioning to Northern Ireland to hike several days on the Causeway Coast section of trail, which includes the Giant's Causeway. Keystone Hiking & Outdoor Weekend 2026 October 23-25, 2026 | Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape Hike, bike, get on the water, and explore the bluffs and ravines of the lower Susquehanna River region.
