Old Loggers Path Slackpack

June 11-13: 3 days of hiking, 28 miles, 1 awesome trail

Picture
Thruhike the Old Loggers Path with the Keystone Trails Association!
Take advantage of this incredible opportunity, to complete in ONE WEEKEND this beautiful trail.

Don’t worry about the plans, the maps, where you’re going to stay, or your heavy pack. The KTA Slackpack Program takes care of all that. Hikers are shuttled to the trailhead in the morning, picked up at the end of the day, and KTA guides lead or sweep the group along the trail. Lodging is provided at Gebetti Hotel in Williamsport, where breakfasts are home-cooked for the group, and lunches are prepared ahead of time. All you have to carry is a day-pack! In 3 days of hiking, you’ll have checked the OLP off your list, made friends, and maybe even shaved off some waistline.

Old Loggers Path is an orange-blazed long-distance backpacking trail that follows former railroad grades, logging roads, bark trails, and other remnants of old industrial transportation, hence the name. The trail is a circuit through remote areas in northeastern Lycoming County. Highlights of the trail are the many revealing cuts on the railroad grades; Rock Run, one of the prettiest streams in Pennsylvania; and vistas over McIntyre Wild Area, Pleasant Stream, and the Loyalsock Trail region. This area and many others like it have been described in a series of historical books on logging railroads. This region, including Masten, is included in Ghost Lumber Towns of Central Pennsylvania (1970), by Thomas Taber. Old Loggers Path is located entirely on state forest land that formerly belonged to the Central Pennsylvania Lumber Company. The trail takes advantage of the engineering expertise of the early logging railroaders by following the moderate grades up and down the rugged landscape.
