For those of you closer to KTA headquarters, we're coordinating with Central Pennsylvania Conservancy again this year to offer Trail Care days during the week. From June through August, you can join us at LeTort Spring Garden Preserve, near Carlisle. There will be something for any level of experience, from sprucing up existing trails on their lovely property, to helping build two brand new, accessible trails. So, these events are ideal for anyone from beginners with zero experience, to veterans of trail work. Type of work may involve trimming back vegetation with loppers, pruners and handsaws, as well as raking, digging, and grading new treadway.
Keystone Trails Association's
2024 Weekday Trail Care
is generously supported by the
Mechanicsburg- North Rotary Club.
Dates: June 18, July 23***, August 20, and September 17
@ LeTort Spring Garden Preserve
1110 Spring Garden Street
Carlisle, PA 17015 (exact meeting place TBD)
Details: We'll work from about 9-12 or stop whenever everyone has had enough, and depending on weather conditions. We may expand into some Wednesdays at CPC's preserves in Juniata County. We will start with a safety talk and tutorial on the type of trail work we'll be doing, then likely split into small groups to tackle some trail projects.
****New this year, one of these Tuesdays, July 23, will be for women only, in partnership with the PA Chapter of Women Who Explore. It is open to the public as well, but we'd like to limit this event to those who identify as female. So, if you're unsure if trail care volunteering is for you, or perhaps feel intimidated, please join us for a day of trail fun!
Important notes:
Food/Drink: Generally, bring your own lunch/snacks and water. We're looking to secure some goodies to hand out.
What else to bring: For these partial day outings, we recommend a small pack with your aforementioned snacks and fluids, insect repellent and sunscreen, needed medications, and a rain jacket if desired. KTA will bring a first aid kit, as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves and safety glasses, as well as any tools needed. Please feel free to bring your own favorite gloves and tools. For more general information about the Trail Care Program and suggested packing lists, see KTA Trail Care FAQ page here.
Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Jenn Ulmer, KTA Manager of Trail Maintenance and Training, at [email protected] or 570-854-8316 with any questions.
