KTA Webinar: Winter Bird Migration
January 20, 2026 - 6:00 pm | Virtual 
Join Brant Portner, Environmental Education Specialist for the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and Pennsylvania Game Commission, for a webinar on Winter Bird Migration. Registration is free but required. Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is a unique State Game Lands with over 6,000 acres and many recreational opportunities. Late winter and early spring, it becomes a popular location to view the spring waterfowl migration, where over 100,000 snow geese have been seen on a single day! Learn about all Middle Creek has to offer!

Winter Pop-up Program: Winter Animal Tracking Hike at Nolde Environmental Education Center
Potential dates include: January 26 through March 13  - 9:00 am | Reading, PA
Try your hand at animal tracking after a freshly fallen snow.  If it's actively snowing, we will include snowflake identification.  This workshop will be scheduled with a few days notice once snow is in the forecast for the Berks County area.  Registration places you on an email list once snow looks likely and the event can officially be scheduled.  The hike will take in the morning when animal tracks are most visible before snow starts to melt and winds pick up.  Potential dates include: January 26- March 13.

Bird Migration Hike with Pennsylvania Game Commission 
February 7, 2026 - 2:30 pm | Stevens, PA
Middle Creek is a Globally Important Bird Area managed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. It provides an annual winter resting spot for migrating tundra swans and snow geese. During this time, bird counts can reach over 100,000.   Join KTA and the Pennsylvania Game Commission for a short, guided hike to discuss Middle Creek's history, snow goose migration, and other natural wonders.

KTA Webinar: Live Staking
February 10, 2026 - 6:00 pm | Virtual 
Join reforestation expert Ryan Davis with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay to learn about live staking, a technique to plant native trees and shrubs from cuttings. This method can be a fast, free way to increase biodiversity and improve water and habitat quality. Registration is free, but required.

Maple Sugaring Demonstration & Winter Tree Identification Hike
March 1, 2026 - 11:30 am | Lancaster County Central Park, Lancaster, PA 
PA Master Naturalists will lead this 2.5-mile hike, sharing tips on how to use bark and buds for winter tree identification. We'll finish the hike with a stop at a maple sugaring demonstration site, where we'll get to sample maple sugar candy and learn how tree sap becomes maple syrup from County Park Naturalists.

KTA Webinar: Vernal Pools
April 7, 2026 - 6:00 pm | Virtual 
What's so Cool About a Vernal Pool? Vernal pools are isolated, small wetlands that only contain water for part of the year. They are often found in the forest and are easy to overlook while hiking, yet they are vitally important to the survival of several wildlife species. Join Miranda Smith, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Southwest Region Education Specialist, to learn about vernal pools and how they serve as a vital habitat.

Join KTA in the Laurel Highlands Conservation Landscape. Stay at the Summit Inn, just miles from Ohiopyle State Park. Lodging and program registration coming soon!

Keystone Trails Association International Hiking Trip Fundraiser: Trekking on the International Appalachian Trail Ulster-Ireland
August 9-20, 2026 | Ireland
Explore the northern reaches of the Republic of Ireland as well as the Causeway Coast section of Northern Ireland on this KTA international hiking trip fundraiser. The International Appalachian Trail Ulster-Ireland begins in the west in West Donegal in the Republic of Ireland and stretches for 279 miles into Northern Ireland, finishing in Larne in County Antrim. We will explore several sections of trail in the Republic of Ireland near Donegal before transitioning to Northern Ireland to hike several days on the Causeway Coast section of trail, which includes the Giant's Causeway.
The lottery will open February 1, 2026!

Keystone Hiking & Outdoor Weekend 2026
October 23-25, 2026 | Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape 
Hike, bike, get on the water, and explore the bluffs and ravines of the lower Susquehanna River region. Featuring activities led by partners and KTA. Registration opens summer 2026.
