Conestoga Trail
The 65.8-mile Conestoga Trail offers a unique ramble through rural Lancaster County. More than half of the trail’s length is on country roads, featuring several covered bridges and numerous Amish and Mennonite farms. The trail also walks through urban and suburban neighborhoods in Lancaster and includes interspersed footpath segments through forested areas.
The trail begins at the Mason-Dixon Trail near the Susquehanna River, and after the PA 372 road bridge over the river, about the first 12 miles are through wilderness. The rest of the trail alternates between walks along roads and footpaths through forested segments. The trail ends at the Horse-Shoe Trail near US 322, within Upper Hopewell Forge Wildlife Sanctuary.
Camping is not allowed on most of the Conestoga Trail, and most of the off-road segments are on private property. Maps and a guidebook can be obtained from Lancaster Hiking Club: https://www.lancasterhikingclub.com/trail-guide.
