This is the perfect time of year to stay longer on the battlefield without fear of overheating. The Gettysburg Battlefield, famously known for the three-day battle that took place at the beginning of July 1863, surrounds the small town of Gettysburg. Out of over 2,000 land engagements, the Battle of Gettysburg was the greatest battle and the turning point of the American Civil War. Gettysburg is home to a 6,000 acre Civil War military park, dedicated to the soldiers who fought the battle. There are several modern ways to visit Gettysburg Battlefield: car, horse, Segway, carriage, and bus. We will travel as the original soldiers did: on foot. Besides the famous battlefield, Gettysburg offers a wealth of activities beyond the historic acres. Gettysburg is notable for the variety of ways to experience the history of the town. Besides the Battlefield, you can take tours of the town, museums, and historic houses. History taught through first person actor portrayals and reenactments will make you feel as if you have been transported back in time. You can walk through solider camps, learn about Presidents Lincoln and Eisenhower, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and so much more. Looking to get in touch with your spiritual side? Consider taking a Gettysburg Ghost Tour. Gettysburg is said to be teeming with paranormal activity and has even been featured on several popular television series. This hiking weekend takes place the weekend after Halloween. What better time to get a little spooked? There is no way we will be able to experience everything Gettysburg has to offer in one short weekend. While covering a large amount of ground, this program will give you just a glimpse into the history of Gettysburg. We hope that when you leave on Sunday you make plans for a return trip! |
