KTA’s Goals

8/21/2018

by Joe Neville, KTA Executive Director
In June, the KTA Board and a number of volunteers met to begin to chart a pathway forward for the organization in the years ahead. The first step in the process was to propose a number of broad goals that KTA could work toward.

At the Fall Hiking Weekend, the Board plans to discuss these proposed goals with KTA members and clubs to see whether the membership agrees with goals or has suggestions for improvements. We encourage all clubs to send representatives to the Board/Council meeting on Saturday, October 13.

The next step in this process will be to set up small groups to put some “meat on the bones” of the goals by proposing strategies or actions to accomplish the goals. The Board will prepare a final document to then guide KTA forward and provide an action plan for staff to begin implementation.

We encourage everyone to attend the Fall Hiking Weekend. If you are unable to attend, but want to comment, please send us your thoughts and opinions to: ktahike@kta-hike.org.

OUR MISSION: To provide, protect, preserve, and promote recreational hiking trails and hiking opportunities in Pennsylvania.

DRAFT GOALS
KTA will:
  1. Have adequate resources (financial, staff and volunteer) to fulfill the mission.
  2. Be the voice of the hiking community and advocate for their interests.
  3. Partner with like-minded organizations, agencies, groups and individuals where appropriate to further the mission.
  4. Encourage new clubs to form and join KTA while supporting existing clubs as needed.
  5. Promote diverse and multiple hiking opportunities.
  6. Maintain a diversity of trails in all regions of the Commonwealth.
  7. Adapt to changing social and cultural environments to keep the organization vibrant, relevant and effective.
