by Ed Lawrence, KTA Trail Care Coordinator The July 26-29 Trail Care weekend on the North Country Trail was well attended and accomplished a variety of tasks. Crew members put in a total of 208 hours of work with some volunteers clocking in time on Thursday and Monday as well. Thursday’s work focused on improving the treadway on the side trail to the camping area along the NCT between Pleasant Valley Road and Branchton Road. Friday took crew members into McConnells Mill State Park to work on the steps and railings of the Alpha Pass Trail section of the NCT. Saturday volunteers improved the tread on a portion of the NCT near the Tamarack Camping Area and also shuttled tools, supplies and lumber to the site of the new Adirondack style shelter in the camping area. Sunday entailed a return to McConnells Mill State Park to work on drainage issues for a wet section of the trail. The work wrapped up on Monday when leader Dave Adams, Joe Hardisky and Dan Mourer installed the floor in the new shelter. Other members of the hard working weekend crew were Ed Scurry, Paul Henry, Joyce Appel, Dave Galbreath, Jamie Burns, Brian Loutzenhiser, Ron Rice and Betsy Norton. Their dedication to the North Country Trail is much appreciated. Volunteers make all the difference.
