Spring 2017 Hiking and Meeting Weekend Photo Journal

Ten hikers from the Berks Community Hiking Club attended the Spring 2017 hiking weekend. Plus, I saw a neighbor there who might join our club. For the best for shots with hikers in them I like the pictures of the wet trail on Friday, climbing up the hill on Saturday, and the descent through the snow drift (also on Saturday). The stately pine tree, view from the top of the ski resort, and sunset are good nature shots. Enjoy.
I’ll start with my favorite from my Friday hike and probably representative of conditions on many of the trails that day. This trail was in the Forbes State Forest and the sign said it was the “Fish Trail.” I kidded that fish might have been on the trail with us that afternoon. We continued on the Wolf Rocks Trail to the Overlook.

Sunset from Camp Ligonier Friday evening - a promise of a clear day on Saturday.

Saturday’s hike was in the Roaring Run Natural Area, DCNR.

Here are two of us trudging down the north face of the mountain through knee-deep snow drifts descending from the summit and continuing our hike on the Laurel Highlands Ski Hiking Trail.

This picture was taken at about 7:15 am on Saturday morning as we walked through the woods from our cottage to the lodge for breakfast. I call it “Snow falls softly through the pines.”
