Due to the recent flood (8" of rain in 6 hours), access to the Old Loggers Path near Pleasant Stream is very limited.

Loyalsock State Forest has provided a map of the  roads closed to motor vehicles.

  • You cannot access mile 16.84 or mile zero via Rt 14.
  • If you go in via Proctor and Cascade Road, you can access mile 23.53 on Hillsgrove Road. You must park 100 yards east of that road crossing (where a 30 foot section of road is washed out, 15 feet deep).
  • You can "almost" get  to Masten via Cascade and west on Hillsgrove.  An unnamed tributary bypassed a culvert and took out the entire roadway as you get to "east Masten". It washed out another 60 feet of Hillsgrove Road, about 10 feet deep).

I have never seen devastation of this magnitude. The OLP is going to need many volunteers to repair sections of the trail that have been damaged.  The Old Loggers Path needs your help.

any chance someone can put an overlay of the trail on that map with the closures? I've looked at it a few times and it's pretty confusing if you don't know the area well.

Are the roads accessible now? I'm planning a trip up from Dallas and want to access near the Masten Rod & Gun Club. Thank you.

The last update that we received is below. For updated information you will need to contact The Loyalsock State Forest at 570-946-4049.

.Storm Damage to Old Loggers Path and Access Roads (posted 4.10.17)
Access to the Old Loggers Path in Loyalsock State Forest, Lycoming County is difficult due to many road closures due to
flooding. The flood was caused by over 8" of rain in about a six hour period and resulted in bridges out or bypassed. The present problem is not water, it's erosion. Some roadbeds were severed by 5 to 15 foot deep channels. Some will not be rebuilt. Pleasant
Stream road is closed. Mill Creek Road is closed. Big Hollow Road is closed. Masten Road is closed from the quarry down to Masten as of this date. See map HERE.

If you belong to a trail club, consider scheduling a work trip to repair the damage on the Old Loggers Path. BOF has relocated the most difficult section at mile 16.84 where it crosses Pleasant Stream. Please coordinate with BOF to find other critical areas. This trail needs your help.

(Update 5.22.2017) - Hikers should be informed that the only access to the mile zero trailhead, at Masten might be solely by upper Pleasant Grove Road (toward Ellendale).
